8 Fantastic Doctor Who Continuity References That You Might Not Have Noticed

1. The Eleven Doctors (And Their References To Each Other)

"Hello," Matt Smith declared, stepping through a rippling hologram. "I'm the Doctor." It was that moment that the Eleventh Doctor felt like one of the gang, and since then, writers have included so many so many lines and catchphrases from former Doctors. "One day" (First Doctor), "Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow" (Third Doctor) and "Would you like a jelly baby" (Fourth Doctor) are all uttered by the Ganger Doctor in 'The Almost People', Gareth Roberts includes the "You've redecorated! I don't like it" line from the Second Doctor's era, and Three is again referenced in 'Cold War' when the Doctor claims his pockets are dimensionally transcendental pockets. Elsewhere, the Fourth Doctor mentions his beginnings at Totter's Yard in regeneration episode Logopolis, the Fifth Doctor enjoys a return to a historical episode in Black Orchid and in Silver Nemesis, the Seventh Doctor hypnotises two guards with Five-like brainy specs just like Two did in The War Games. The Tenth Doctor mirrors the Ninth when he claims "Bananas are good!" ('The Girl in the Fireplace'), and he says in 'Utopia' that he was a "different man' back in his ninth incarnation. Nine claims that his ears stick out ('Rose') in a similar fashion to how Four reacts to his new appearance (Robot), and reflects Five (who states in Castrovalava that "You never quite know what you're going to get") when he claims "I mean it's a bit dodgy this process, you never know what you're gonna end up with" ('The Parting of the Ways'). It's also worth noting that both Nine and Ten looked to their right hand as a sign of impending regeneration. But what are your favourite continuity nods? Which ones have I missed out? Comment below!
