Even for a show known for its meta side excursions, in the cold open of “Changing Channels” Supernatural outdid itself. A hilarious, unexpected segment mimicking a multi-camera studio sitcom "filmed in front of a live studio audience", the scene sets up an episode in which the characters get trapped in another terrible TV show called "Dr Sexy, M.D", a riff on Grey's Anatomy.
The cold open is shot like a Disney Channel teen comedy, with garish sets and stilted dialogue. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles give a game imitation of the sort of over-acting typical to these shows.
