8 Great TV Shows That Would Have Had Incredible Prequels
6. The Holmes Brothers - Sherlock
The Premise: A highly intelligent young boy struggles to fit in with the rest of the world; only his patronising older sibling who understands him. Series 3 has delved deeper into the mind of Sherlock Holmes than ever before. The cases have taken a backseat in favour of developing the man solving them and it's become apparent that he's the real mystery. He's the reason we watch the show. Further to the point about New Tricks, a good detective show needs a good presence reading the case files. The idea of Sherlock's upbringing is one that perplexes modern fans as well as Conan Doyle nerds. The BBC series only adds to the mythos, giving a whole new audience clues and hints as to how Sherlock became the man he is today. Could you imagine a Smallville-esque coming-of-age drama, starring a young, Cumberbatchian actor with support coming from an icy, young Mycroft? It's a potentially dramatic, hilarious or poignant premise, whichever direction you take it. He doesn't even have to be solving crimes. Recent episodes have proved that Sherlock's brilliant no matter what he's doing. Maybe we could see his life of heroin?
