8 Great TV Shows That Would Have Had Incredible Prequels

2. Heroes: The First Generation - Heroes

The Premise: In the 1960's, a group of young friends discover that they have superpowers; together, they form an organisation to help others with the same abilities. Do you remember how much we loved Heroes back at the start, when this fresh crop of characters found out that they had magical abilities? No? Chances are then that you just remember most of them losing their powers. Oh, and then there was that huge, corrupt network, set up by their parents, who had already been there, done that, got the t-shirt and screwed their lives up. Taking Heroes back to the 1960's, to the point in the universe where superpowers were actually a big deal, would solve that problem. The previous generations' characters like Charles Deveaux, Kaito Nakamura, Arthur Petrelli, even Claude Rains, were on the whole, far more exciting as characters than their kids. If a show about superheroes isn't exciting, then what's the point? Isn't it a huge anti-climax to develop these characters' stories, only for us to discover that their mums and dads did all that stuff before them? It normalises the extraordinary. We wait with baited breath for Heroes: Reborn. Has Tim Kring developed the ability not to overcomplicate and sentimentalise absolutely everything, yet? Hopefully. And hopefully Zachary Quinto won't steal it from him.
