8 Great TV Shows With Awful First Seasons
3. Supernatural
In the first season of any TV show, you have to expect the actors to not quite know what they're doing with the characters quite yet. How much of a detriment this will be to the show you're watching varies, but one case where this was particularly bad was the very first season of Supernatural.
Supernatural is the kind of show that lives and dies on the interaction of its two central protagonists, the Winchester brothers. Go on any social media feed dating back to the early to mid-2010's (particularly on sites like Tumblr) and most of the fandom around this show is mostly centered on the characters of Sam and Dean Winchester.
So it only stands to reason that the first season is the kind we mostly don't talk about apart from dissecting why it doesn't work. And the reason is actually very simple: the two lead actors - while talented - haven't gotten a hold of their characters yet, and so the show suffered from that lack of chemistry.
This, of course, was a problem that rectified itself the longer the show went on.
