8 Greatest TV Sitcoms About Comedians

6. Everybody Hates Chris

Is this one cheating? Only a little, but we'll let it slide because Chris Rock's rose-tinted glasses-less look back at his early life spent growing up in Brooklyn and attending a school at which he's the only black kid is still about the comedian - just way before he actually started telling jokes. The show sees the titular Chris enduring the trials and tribulations of both middle school and his own insane family, all the while just trying to get by without getting in anyone's way, which he usually pays at and pays the price for. Everybody Hates Chris is a breath of fresh air compared to many of the 'coming of age' childhood comedies the show is clearly a response to, such as Boy Meets World and particularly The Wonder Years, with the present-day Rock's abrasive narration providing a hilarious counterpoint to the cowering actions and worries of his former self. Everybody Hates Chris also features a stellar cast, from Chris himself (Tyler James Williams) to his mother and father, played by Tichina Arnold and Terry Crews, and his childhood bestie Vincent Martella.
