5. The Promised Neverland
On the surface, The Promised Neverland seems like an extremely cute story set around a bunch of children living in what looks like the nicest orphanage in the world. The kids look happy and playful, the owner of the orphanage seems to love them and they all end up leaving with a family once they hit a certain age.
However, what originally seems like a coming of age story between a group of friends, turns into something a lot more sinister than we're originally led to believe. The show quickly becomes one of betrayal and survival as these small children do their best to get away from the orphanage.
Without spoiling too much of the show, this is quite clearly one of the best animes of recent times. The story is captivating and quite shocking if you don't see where it's going, the art style is genuinely quite beautiful and the voice actors sound fantastic.
