5. Is The Dominion Still A Threat?
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's finale "What You Leave Behind" clearly depicted a defeated Dominion signing a peace treaty with the Federation-Klingon-Romulan alliance and then slinking back to the Gamma Quadrant.
Still, let's not forget the reason the war began in the first place: Federation colonial expansion. After the discovery of the wormhole, Starfleet began exploration of the Gamma Quadrant, much to the agitation of the Dominion. The Dominion ordered the Federation to stay out of the Gamma Quadrant, but Starfleet insisted on exploring the new region and the Dominion reacted by invading the Alpha Quadrant.
So now that the war's over and Odo rejoined the Great Link and potentially showed them all the good that humanity and the Federation is capable of, is the Dominion now okay with the Federation in their backyard? Have they continued to insist that Starfleet not explore the Gamma Quadrant? And if they have, is there still conflict between the two powers? Just because they signed an armistice doesn't mean the Federation and the Dominion are now friends...
