Taking up the mantle of John Goodman and Fred Flintstone, James' portrayal of Doug Heffernan was there to remind us that fat guys can end up with beautiful women, but their lives will be hilariously miserable because of it. But actually, Doug Heffernan (who probably originated in rough drafts as Pudgy Gutterson) didn't start out as the comically overweight, perpetually unappreciative husband on King of Queens.
