8 Reasons Futurama Doesn't Need A Season 8
7. Are There Any New Stories To Tell?
People are never tired of saying that science fiction is an endless source of inspiration and ideas. Except, that's not quite true. Whilst there's limitless scope in the genre, the imagination of the writer can often be a large stumbling block.
Futurama has had some incredible high-concept stories over the years, an episode like Roswell That Ends Well brilliantly combines the myths of Area 51 with the grandfather paradox. Another incredibly moving episode features hallucinogenic honey that allows Leela to recognise her feelings for Fry after he's seemingly killed by a space bee.
Meanwhile, the later series of the revived Futurama featured Zoidberg constructing a ventriloquist puppet out of Hermes' discarded body parts and a sentient arse pimple called Susan Boil. Worse still, the last time we saw the Planet Express crew was a painfully unfunny, ratings grab of a crossover with The Simpsons.
Whilst inspiration may come from the billionaire space race and other advancements in the years since Futurama, there's a sinking feeling that the writing team were already grasping at narrative straws towards the ends of the previous revival.
