8 Reasons The Seinfeld Superbowl Reunion Just Didn't Work

1. "We Already Screwed Up One Finale..."

...And now you've screwed up another one. I didn't have much of a problem with the finale, I was fine with the irony that the main cast of the show about nothing were arrested for doing just that, but sadly I was more than a little underwhelmed. Then Curb came along and salvaged it with a genuine scripted episode (we just didn't see every second of it), and we got the chance to finish on a good note again. Now, unless drastic measures are taken, this is our final Seinfeld reunion. What a shame it is, too. With Curb, it wasn't just one episode, it was a whole 10 episode season (if you want to be technical about it, Jerry appeared in 5 episodes during that season, Louis-Dreyfus in 4, and Alexander and Richards in 3 episodes each). All the more importantly, it was brilliantly executed and wonderfully performed. Now we have this bland, short commercial for Acura, and to a lesser extent, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. But the worst part is, I don't care that it's a commercial for those things. If it were just a 30-second spot featuring the cast (in character) ordering at Burger King, it would be okay as long as it were funny. Now, if you try and educate anyone under the age of 25 as to what Seinfeld is, their reaction will be "Oh. The one from that Superbowl special? Nah, that sucked, not my taste". Then they'll probably switch their attention back to their TV screens and continue to watch their endless Friends reruns. Any other reasons the reunion didn't work? How would you like to have seen it go? Leave your answer in the comments and thanks for reading!
