8 Reasons The Walking Dead Season 5 Is The Best So Far

7. It's Getting Even Darker In Tone

The first four seasons of The Walking Dead have not been without their fair share of dark and morbid moments - you'd expect nothing less from a series about a zombie apocalypse, and when it dips into the depths of depravity it's deliciously twisted entertainment. Season 5, however, seems to be prepared to take us even further down the path of darkness, not just in the grim world of the undead but also in the behaviour of its human characters. The Walking Dead's living characters have often been capable of atrocities - as we saw with the Governor in season 3 and 4 - but the introduction of a group of cannibals has taken this dark edge to the precipice. There's not much in human history that can be considered as taboo as eating the flesh of another human being, and the methods employed by the cannibalistic residents of Terminus are about as psychopathic as you can possibly get. With the cannibal leader Gareth already killed off in episode 3 there's a chance that it may have peaked a little early, but with a bit of luck The Walking Dead will go even further into the dark recesses of our species as the series progresses.
