8 Reasons Why Netflix Is Better Than Amazon Prime Video
3. More Diverse Programming
In terms of leading roles, showrunners, subject matter and genre, Netflix has a much more diverse range of original movies and shows than Amazon, particularly from the perspective of marketing. Video On Demand lives and dies based on first impressions – if you’re not interested by a show’s promotional icon, then it’s unlikely you’ll read more about it, and doubly unlikely you’ll end up watching it.
That’s exactly Amazon’s problem.
To peruse Prime’s original TV shows, you’d be forgiven for thinking they were all churned out of the same factory. At first glance, they all appear to be shows with a one word title about stubbly white guys who wear suits, or period action dramas about Vikings and pirates - there’s very little else to glean. They might be great shows beneath the surface, but that matters little if people aren’t being drawn in to watch them.
Compare Lucifer, Sneaky Pete, Goliath, Bosch, and Patriot’s promo images with the likes of Master of None, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, LOVE, Bojack Horseman, The Get Down, Stranger Things, Jessica Jones and Black Mirror. Each show appears very different to the other, and creates the impression that Netflix’s library is larger and more varied than Amazon’s; they’re much more vibrant and visually compelling than their Prime competitors.
