8 Spooky Predictions Ricky Gervais Got Right In Extras

6. The Disability Storm

The Predictions: Andy inadvertently offends the mother of a child with Down Syndrome by demanding that her son - who he doesn't realise is disabled - be made to shut up in a restaurant. The moment kicks off a maelstrom of media outrage as Andy is castigated by blood-thirsty media who twist his words, and his intentions.

In Real Life: Given his typically unrestrained Twitter presence, Gervais is never too far away from controversy, which has never been more obvious than when he caused outrage - and upset a charity worker with two disabled children in particular - by using the word "mong." Despite the term being an antiquated derogatory one, which Gervais vehemently denied was being used in the most offensive context, the media exploded with accusations of bigotry.

Like Millman, Gervais was quickly swept up in a tide of anger, which was exponentially greater than it should have been, given his qualifications and the obvious meaning, no matter how silly it was subsequently deemed, and was forced to offer a public apology.
