In Real Life: Lionel Blair appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, temporarily prompting the late teenage audience to wonder who the grumpy old man was. A simple, but no less spooky one: when Andy Millman decides to give up on his integrity, in the search for fame and fortune, he goes into the Celebrity Big Brother house, despite the very obviously liberal definition of the first part of the show's title, and finds himself surrounded by a group of tragically fame-hungry Z-Listers.

Alongside a mum whose son was murdered, Lisa Scott Lee and other bargain basement fame-whores, TV legend (though not that many people can remember what for) Lionel Blair appears, admitting he's there to keep his name in the media. It's a particularly barbed parody given that it implicitly suggests that Celebrity Big Brother is the very dregs of TV fame, but then, somewhat unthinkably, Blair actually turned up on the genuine CBB, surrounded by a similarly desperate gaggle of unlikely "stars."
