8 Star Trek Episodes That PISSED OFF Other Franchises

5. Dawn Vs Enemy Mine

Star Trek Dawn
CBS/Fox

Dawn is a second-season episode of Enterprise that is generally regarded as one of the weakest offerings of the seasons, perhaps of the entire show overall. Trip is attacked by an alien vessel, though both then crashland on an inhospitable world. Together, they must find a way to cooperate or risk dying of exposure and dehydration before rescue.

There is one problem immediately. The episode is a remake of Darmok, which is often regarded as one of the best episodes of Star Trek in its entirety. However, fans of Barry B. Longyear were quick to point out that the episode wasn't simply a remake of that episode. It owed a lot to the 1985 film Enemy Mine, starring Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jnr. This film was based on Longyear's 1980 novella of the same name.

Though Enemy Mine dealt with a much longer time period, the episode's plot followed more or less the early parts of that script, stopping short of having Trip and Zho'kaan spend three years living with each other on the planet. This episode earned harsh reviews from critics, with writer John Shiban being labelled a plagiarist as well.
