8 Things Everyone’s Getting Wrong About Game Of Thrones

1. “They’ve Ruined Dany”

This is the real one. For fans of the show to disagree with where Daenerys has gone is fine, for them not to like it is fine, but for them to say that The Bells was somehow not in keeping with her character - and where it was always going to go - is absolutely wild.

The groundwork has been getting laid since the very first season and with the Night King defeated it was always going to be her who ended up as the true monster of the story. I’m really, really sorry if you had a Tumblr account filled with screenshots of her smiling, but that’s your fault, not the writer’s.

Let’s recap. She’s spent her entire life longing for home, only to arrive and find she doesn't belong. She has had very few people close to her and has now seen her best friends and children killed in front of her. She believes in her destiny to rule, only to discover the man she loves has a better claim.

The idea of Dany as a figure of tragedy, consumed by loss, betrayal, and isolation, corrupted by power and destiny, haunted by her father’s legacy as the mad king, it’s all immensely powerful writing and the only fitting way to close out this song of ice and fire.

“When my dragons are grown we will take back what was stolen from me and destroy those who have wronged me. We will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground”.

Honestly, I’m really sorry that your favourite character let you down and it’s broken your heart, but that’s good storytelling. Your girl spent 8 full seasons telling you exactly what her move was and, just like the now iconic ringing of those bells, you just didn’t want to hear it.
