8 Things Popular TV Shows Need To Get Right In 2016

5. The X-Files Needs A Modern Facelift

The last time new X-Files was on our screens was during 2008's film The X-Files: I Want To Believe. Despite opening in cinemas, the film performed disappointingly at the box office, and received mixed to negative critical reviews. There were a few reasons why I Want To Believe was so disappointing. For a start, it just wasn't modern enough. By that I mean it was filled with cliches: a mad scientist, organ harvesting and body part splicing. It worked during the 90s, but in 2008 it just came across as slightly displaced, a film out of its time. At last, however, The X-Files has been given a chance to redeem itself. Set to return in January 2016, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are back to investigate all kinds of seemingly paranormal mysteries. But how can they make sure it's any good? Primarily, the shows needs an update. Stay true to the characters, sure, but the stories need to take place in a fresher, more modern environment. The world is very different politically than it was two decades ago, and that needs to show. As well as that, the show needs to discard the cliches that it helped make famous. Stuff that used to be frightening is now regarded as overdone. If the show wants to capture a new generation of fans, it needs to interpret its horror through a more sophisticated lens.
