8 Things Popular TV Shows Need To Get Right In 2016
4. House Of Cards Needs To Return To What Works
To many, season three of House Of Cards was a massive disappointment. Gone was the sneaky, conniving, sociopathic Frank Underwood, replaced with something else completely. In attempting to shake up the formula, season three contained some comparatively lacklustre writing, including randomly changing character motivations and uninteresting sub-plots (looking at you, Claire). By giving Frank power, much of the show's initial appeal was lost. So how can they fix it? Put simply, they have to take away Frank's power in a big way. The show is at its most interesting when it's depicting Kevin Spacey as crafty and manipulative. At the very least, give fans an intricate and most importantly interesting plot. Focus less on random characters and more on the Underwoods themselves. But give them something to struggle against something worth watching. It might also be a good idea to tie whatever is going on in the show into our own presidential situation, of which the election is coming up in November 2016. Of course, it can't be a direct parallel given the discrepancy between November and when the fourth season was written, but there's plenty of room for more clever political satire, and it would tie directly into what's going on in the show.
