8 Things The New Star Trek Series Must Do Right

1. It Must Stand On Its Own Merits

The most important thing of all is that any new series must forge its own place within the franchise and not just trade on the name. It should be about a new crew, exploring new worlds and encountering unique new threats. There are certain things it needs to keep to still be considered Star Trek such as Klingons, dorky uniforms and warp speed, but within that framework there€™s plenty of room for reinvention. There are lots of ways it can achieve this. The show needs to have a unique central hook which hasn€™t being tackled by Star Trek before; something that will appeal to a new and older audience. It needs to find a strong show-runner who will put their stamp on it. Casting is vital, as the audience will need to fall in love with this new crew. If the chemistry isn't there then neither will the audience. In summary all the fans are asking for is a fresh, contemporary take on a fifty year old TV show that references the past but breaks new ground at the same time. Oh and is lots of fun, has great characters but also tackles important social issues. Easy. What would you like to see in a new Star Trek series? Should it be linked to the past or breaking new ground? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
