7. Donatello (Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
The new series Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles provides a twist on the franchise's mythos by portraying each brother as a different species of turtle.
Donatello (the purple one) is re-imagined as a soft-shell turtle. While this does give Donnie a clear weakness compared to his brothers, he turns the situation to his advantage, building himself a collection of high-tech battle shells. He also creates a small robot, S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N, to help both in battle and in his lab.
While Donatello being a soft-shell turtle is a twist on classic TMNT canon, the ways in which he compensates mesh perfectly with the fact that Donatello always has been, and always will be, the turtles' tech whiz.
