8 TV Love Triangles That Worked (And 3 That Didn't)
5. Luke, June & Nick - The Handmaid's Tale
June Osbourne has lived two completely different lives, which is perhaps the reason why this love triangle works so well. The first life was full of love and happiness, where she was cherished by her husband Luke, and their daughter Hannah. The second life is full of terror, as she is enslaved in a totalitarian society, and raped repeatedly for the purpose of giving her commander a child. In this second life, she is trapped and alone, but soon develops feelings for Commander Waterford's driver, Nick.
At first, we're rooting for June and Nick, but when June discovers that Luke is alive and well, things grow complicated. In spite of her dystopian circumstances, the handmaid refuses to give up hope, praying that one day she'll be able to return to her former life. But if this ever becomes a reality, will her love for Nick be strong enough to endure a post-Gilead society, or will she be drawn back Luke?
This love triangle has been expertly executed, giving us a reason to root for both men, and June's internal conflict is absolutely glorious.
