8 TV Love Triangles That Worked (And 3 That Didn't)

3. Stefan, Elena & Damon - The Vampire Diaries

With Twilight still a popular film franchise at the time, vampire-centric love triangles were all the rage when The Vampire Diaries came along. However, the hit CW series had a much stronger love triangle at its core than Twilight ever did, which was only intensified by the fact that it was executed exceptionally.

Ask anyone who has watched The Vampire Diaries from the beginning. At the start, we were all team Stefan. Stefan was the kind, unassuming, non-blood-drinking vampire who stole Elena's heart, but when Stefan's attractive bad boy brother Damon turned up, our heads were turned. The clever writing on the show made it seem like Damon was never really an option for Elena, but eventually she succumbed to the darkness.

Perhaps the best thing about this particular love triangle is the fact that neither choice is really 'the right one'. Both men were perfect for Elena. Each satisfied a different part of her personality, and this is the type of internal conflict that makes love triangles all the more enjoyable - regardless of who we want our protagonist to end up with.
