Jack's back: the man who makes James Bond look like Forrest Gump has returned to the small screen in a new series of 24, the format of which has changed - somewhat unthinkably. Originally we followed the action by the hour; each episode represented sixty minutes on a clock counting down to disaster, and each series was twenty-four episodes long (hence the name), but now we only get to see Jack get the job done in twelve episodes. The time-frame still spans twenty-four hours, and the episodes still correlate to one hour of Jack's day, but this time around we skip twelve hours. Such a drastic change to the show means it is time to go. The original twenty-four part run ended after eight seasons in 2010 and that should have been the end of Bauer; what had started as an exciting, action packed show had already become tired by that stage. By now it's asleep on its feet, and no wonder: considering what Jack has had to deal with since he first bust onto our screens it's amazing he has the energy for anything anymore.
