8 TV Shows You Had No Idea Were Rewritten By Real Life Events
7. Lost Killed Off Two Characters Because Fans Hated Them Too Much
It's generally a bad idea for writers to pay attention to the demands of their audience. Usually, it's better to just stick to a singular vision lest the whole thing become muddled and senseless. In the case of Lost, however, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse made the right choice.
Nikki and Paulo Fernandez were two characters introduced at the beginning of the show's third season. Originally from Brazil, Nikki was an actress and Paulo a con-artist. They first show up in the episode Further Instructions.
The characters were intentionally written as unlikable, with the intention being to send them on something of a redemption arc, but fans disliked the couple so much - discussing their hatred on every available media outlet possible - that Lindelof and Cuse hastily wrote them out by having them bitten by a paralysis-inducing spider and buried alive.
According to Lindelof himself, even the writers were unsure about the characters before they were introduced, making the decision to axe them early a whole lot quicker.
