8 Unanswered Questions From Stranger Things Season 3
4. How Will The Russians Feature Into Season 4?
The inclusion of Russia as an antagonistic force was foreshadowed in previous seasons of Stranger Things. In season 3, this threat comes into play in a homage to classic eighties tropes when Russian forces infiltrate Hawkins and reopen the gate to the Upside Down underneath the newly built Starcourt Mall.
Dustin, Steve, Erica and new addition Robin shared a subplot which saw them accidentally infiltrate the secret Russian facility. With a not-so-subtle nod to The Terminator, Hopper was pursued by a near unstoppable Russian operative. The US government eventually arrived on the scene after the gate was closed once again and the Mind Flayer destroyed. However, during a chilling post-credits scene it is revealed that the Russians have captured a demogorgon and are keeping it in a camp in Kamatchka - and feeding it live prisoners.
With the added unanswered mystery as to the identity of the American in the other prison cell, it seems clear that the Russian threat is not over and they will continue to play a part in the goings-on of Hawkins. Will Stranger Things 4 feature an American-Russian conflict and just what will they do with that demogorgon?
