The 2019 Best Picture Winner Parasite was the hilariously dark drama that was half crime caper, half twisted horror - with all the success it garnered, it was only a matter of time before the Korean film would be drawn into the American mainstream medium.

With a series in development that was sought after by multiple streaming services, HBO eventually sealed the deal and acquired the rights to a TV adaptation of the film.

The film's director, Bong Joon Ho, has advised that the series will expand and take place around the feature film - meaning questions asked within the film are sure to be answered in the series. An example Bong gave for a plot was:

When the original housekeeper, Mun Gwang (Lee Jung Eun), comes back in the late night, something happened to her face. Even her husband asked about it, but she never answered. I know why she had the bruises on her face.... I have all these hidden stories that I have stored

Whether that means there will be an anthology, or we're likely to see some familiar faces return is anyone's guess. But with the series still in its infancy, it's too early to tell what the show will entail.

Sadly, this does mean we might not see anything until 2022 at the earliest, but if the series is anything like the film, it'll be worth the wait.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
