Despite being an important player in the Bat-family, Batgirl has been criminally underused and mishandled on screen - in the likes of Batman & Robin and 2002 TV show Birds Of Prey - after she was created for television in the 1960s Batman series. And so, although it looks like Jena Malone will be playing Barbara Gordon in the upcoming Batman films, it is about time that Batgirl got her own vehicle. A TV series could take inspiration from recent comics which sees Barbara returning to fight crime and suffering from PTSD and survivor's guilt after recovering from being made paraplegic by the Joker. The show could also take a leaf out of Jessica Jones' book, in portraying a complex multi-faceted superheroine who has to fight her own demons as well as a rogues gallery of supervillains.
