8. Thomas More Was Actually An Honourable Family Man
One thing that is almost certainly true about Henry VIII's lord chancellor Thomas More is that he was a family man who loved his children. In BBC's Wolf Hall, however, Cromwell is presented as a stereotypical early-modern man who saw his daughters - Margaret, Elizabeth and Cecily - as less important than his son, John. He is shown as doting on John while treating his daughters less affectionately. However, More was extremely liberal and forward-thinking for a Tudor man in terms of how he treated his own female family members. For example, More insisted on his daughters being given the same classical education - in Greek, Latin and mathematics - as his son. In September 1522, More even praised Margaret for her letter writing skills after she composed a note to a bishop.
