9 Moments That Prove Sansa Stark Is Game Of Thrones' Unluckiest Character

5. Married To Tyrion

A brief ray of sunshine breaks through Sansa€™s miserable existence early in season 3, when Margaery proposes that she could marry her brother, Ser Loras. Sansa still being Sansa loves the idea; the Knight of Flowers is the exact sort of heroic figure from the stories she loved growing up, and had previously given her a flower after winning a tourney. She and Loras spend more time together, although Sansa is more taken with the idea than he is, for obvious reasons. She allows herself to believe that the marriage could actually happen, and she€™ll be able to escape Joffrey and King€™s Landing and live the life she always imagined. So of course it was never going to work out that way. When the plans are discovered, Tywin - wishing to prevent rival houses getting stronger, and strengthening House Lannister at the same time - instead arranges for Cersei to marry Loras, while Sansa must marry Tyrion, matches none of the four are pleased with, but the Stark girl undoubtedly gets the worst of it. She undergoes a farcical wedding, since Joffrey has removed the stool Tyrion was to stand on to cloak her, meaning she must kneel down for him, much to the embarrassment of her and her husband. While Tyrion spends the rest of the wedding getting drunk, Joffrey makes thinly-veiled threats to rape Sansa. The imp is at least kind to her, but chances of leaving King€™s Landing - and Joffrey - appear slim.
