5. The Classic Master's Exit
Another character falling under the spell of a giant interplanetary quarry was the Master, as portrayed by the late, great Anthony Ainley. After a string of elaborate schemes, the 80s version of the Time Lord's ultimate nemesis found himself reduced to his baser instincts, howling at the sun in a safari suit and mobilizing a crack team of "yoof" extras to strike back in leafy Perivale. By the time the credits rolled, the original series had been killed off. Another way in which the cat species made a dent in the legacy. Suffice to say, It wasn't the best of endings for an evil genius, "master" of disguise and all-round threat to the cosmos. Though the actor may well have returned had the show been reprieved, the adventure left an incoherent thread that never got resolved. Teleporting the Doctor to a self destructing plateau, there ensued a bit of a scuffle before McCoy somehow managed to get himself back to Earth, just as Ainley swung his bone. Paul McGann's TV movie imbued the Master with Manimal-esque properties, though whether this was intended to reference Survival is unclear.
