Every once in a while, even Nick - a man so acutely aware of lifes hardships - has to search for advice from other people. But whereas most of us would ask our best friends and colleagues for some support, Nick manages to seek out the zaniest of shoulders to cry on. His meeting with a middle-aged man who claims to his future-self inspires him to become more ambitious and reflective, at least for a small period of time. And even though it later transpires that this future Nick is nothing but a ruse instigated by a barfly who had clearly observed his prey from afar, one of his statements may yet prove to be prophetic: the notion that Nick will do something that really hurts Jess. A harbinger of doom or the talk of a wind-up merchant? Regardless, there's no doubt that this idea constantly runs through Nick's emotionally-fragile mind. Nick also finds solace in Tran, a cuddly old Asian man whom he encounters in the park. Speaking with his eyes and constantly acting as a sounding board for Nicks problems, the unlikely pair manage to sustain a deep emotional connection. A feat made even more impressive when Tran leads Nick through a side-splittingly funny water massage, loosening the tension that eternally permeates the bartenders body.
