9 Reasons To Be Hyped For Star Trek Discovery
3. It’s The First Binge-Friendly Star Trek Series
CBS has opted to house Discovery on its online platform CBS All Access. Most of the rest of the world (including the UK) will get to watch it on Netflix. These are new waters for a Star Trek series to swim in, which could have awesome results.
Unlike every previous Star Trek show, Discovery has a brisk, Netflix-friendly length. Season 1 will be a 13-episode event, rather than a network-mandated 22-part slog. In keeping with that, Fuller told Collider that Discovery will have "one story over thirteen episodes" rather than a series of loosely linked instalments with their own freak of the week baddies and shoehorned subplots.
This is a Star Trek series to suit modern, binge-loving viewing habits. And the transition to the online realm has another big positive, too: there are no limits regarding adult content, brutal violence and fruity language. It remains to be seen whether Discovery will utilise this, but it's cool to know the series can go to some dark, grown-up places if the story demands it.
