9 Star Trek Story Threads Continued In Non-TV Formats
4. Comic Thread - Balance Of Terror
He repeated the same amazing performance with Star Trek: Alien Spotlight with the inclusion and modification of my all-time favourite TOS episode: "Balance of Terror". This was Mark Lenard's first appearance in Star Trek as a Romulan officer in command of an Imperial Warbird destroying Federation outposts along the Neutral Zone. Of course, Mark Lenard was more well-known for his role as Sarek, Mr. Spock's father. Of course, this episode was primarily portrayed from the perspective of Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise, locked in combat with a mysterious enemy who has the ability to disappear from the Enterprise's sensors and armed with a devastating new energy weapon. In Star Trek: Alien Spotlight, Byrne shifts the perspective and writes the comic from the enemy's perspective using original Romulans' dialogue from the episode. The spirit of the episode is fully captured and Byrne uses this issue to springboard to another series that connects to other adventures with other characters from TOS sources.
