9 Times Top Gear Crossed The Line

1. The Provocative Slogans On The USA Special

Scrawling teasing slogans across the side of their vehicles may, at least at first glance, seem fairly harmless. The likes of 'Nascar Sucks' and 'Hillary for President' is really not all that outrageous, and certainly not by Top Gear's usual standards, even if it was done in the Southern United States. Realistically, it probably wasn't either of these that caused any major offence. 'I'm Bi' and 'Man Love Rules OK' are more likely the ones to have raised a few eyebrows. The stunt was performed as the team passed through a "hick town", but it quickly turned ugly as they pulled into a petrol station and drew the attention of a group of local rednecks. The situation got particularly serious when rocks started to be thrown and more locals began to turn up, prompting the team to hurriedly leave town and remove the slogans. Admittedly, it'd be fairly easy to criticise the hostile actions of the Southerners in this case. Trouble is, when the presenters are behaving so deliberately provocative... who is really to blame?
