9 Times Top Gear Crossed The Line

2. The Murdered Albanian In The Boot

There is becoming a dwindling supply of countries that have not so far been mocked by the Top Gear team, but poor old Albania did get a significantly harsher thrashing than the usual passing remark or quip. During a road test of a Rolls Royce, Mercedes, and a "Bentley" that took place in the country, it was described as a haven of Mafia car thieves. That bit is forgiveable though, as they've said far worse. The part that is more likely to have been the cause of 600 Ofcom complaints is when the trio "murder" an Albanian. Clarkson's reasoning for the murder is, "We reckon that when someone from the Albanian Mafia is choosing a new car, uppermost in his mind will be this: can I get a dead body in the boot?" The next few minutes are spent clumsily trying to fit the rather hefty Albanian into the back of each car, a scene which is uncomfortable for any viewer to watch, let alone any Albanians. Credit where it is due, however, as the Albanian Ambassador took the jokes on the chin and refrained from any official complaints.
