9 TV Shows That Left Huge Unanswered Questions Behind
3. Dexter: What Happens When Dex Continues To Kill?
Dexter fans pondered the question of what would happen when the titular serial killer was finally caught from the very beginning. They feverishly debated whether a lethal injection or life imprisonment was a more fitting end for the Bay Harbour Butcher, but his final destination ended up being neither.
The showrunners decided a metaphorical prison and a life of lumberjacking was more apt for Michael C Hall's character, his bloody actions ultimately isolating him from everyone he supposedly loved.
This is how the Showtime series chose to dole out justice, but as a conclusion it didn't feel definitive. Surely there is more of Dex's story to tell beyond this? The show made a point of reminding viewers that Dexter cannot help killing, he can only channel his compulsion and use it as a means of ridding the world of people we could do without.
Therefore, Dex will continue to kill despite starting a new life as a lonely lumberjack, and no doubt the fans are desperate to know what will happen when he starts engaging in his favourite pastime once again. Without the vast resources of the Miami PD behind him, how long will it take before he slips up?
Dex has never shown any sign of kicking his murder habit indefinitely, and that almost certainly means he will be caught at some point, and what happens after that is a question tantalising enough to warrant a revival, if only so the show can end on a more appropriate note.
