5. Lucifer
So many superheroes, so little time...but seriously, with so many superheroes, and so little time, who is going to commit to a show about a superhero they've barely even heard of? Lucifer is an upcoming Fox television series that's loosely based on a character created by sci-fi writer Neil Gaiman for his comic book series The Sandman. Sounds great and all (Gaiman is a brilliant, clever writer) but it's a show that's basically fighting against unwinnable odds. For a start, the premise of the plot is pretty cliché. The devil gets bored in hell and decides to come to earth. Fair enough. The hook is that Lucifer decides to help the Los Angeles Police Department punish criminals. Why? Why does that character need to be the devil? The real reason the show is doomed, however, is that there are just so many other superhero shows out there already. Gotham, Arrow, Daredevil, Agents of SHIELD, The Flash, Agent Carter...all of these are based on popular characters, or propped up by some cinematic universe. In a world with so much choice, Lucifer is destined to get buried.
