6. Game Of Thrones Season Six
All right, all right...drop your pitchforks for a second and let me explain. When I say that season six of Game Of Thrones is doomed, I don't mean that it's going to get cancelled because of poor viewer ratings. What it is going to do is disappoint a lot of people, and sadly that's inevitable. We knew this would happen all along, many of us just tried not to think about how soon it was coming. What little source material from George R.R. Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series there was left has essentially been used up. Season five received the most mixed reaction that the show has ever experienced, and why? Because there was barely any source material left to use, leading to bouts of disappointing writing. Leaving the writers to come up with new, off-book material lead to some of the weakest, most middling and frankly filler-quality material in the show's history. Transplanting Sansa into the role of Ramsay's sexually and physically abused wife, for example, drew criticism for its blatant attempts to be shocking. And the moment fans have been talking about since the season ended was basically the last major scene left to adapt from the books, so season six really will be mostly new territory. Across the show's history, the writers have yet to prove they're able to write new material as strong as book material. In season five, they proved they mostly couldn't. Season six, then, is doomed for this reason. It's entirely likely that the writers will chase the kinds of things they think the show is about which they did with the new stuff in season five (shocking violence and twists, not strong, intelligent characters and plot).
