9 Upcoming Original Amazon TV Shows You Should Be Excited About
3. Not Top Gear
When Jeremy Clarkson was fired from Top Gear, following his "fracas" with a producer, co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May weren't far behind in leaving the BBC. It was then simply a question of where the trio would end up, with the likes of ITV and Netflix mooted as the most likely destinations for their next show. Instead it is Amazon who have swooped in to order whatever motoring show they can cook up, and while it won't be called Top Gear in name, it's very likely to be Top Gear in spirit. The act had felt slightly stale on the BBC, almost like they had started playing characters or parodies of themselves, so hopefully the new show will allow them to freshen things up a bit and get back to what made them so great to watch in the first place. Quite how much they'll get away with in America remains to be seen, but given that they're on Amazon rather than a network they should be free to let loose and really do their own thing, with a big-budget behind them and an audience all ready to follow.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
