9 Upcoming Original Amazon TV Shows You Should Be Excited About

4. Mad Dogs

US remakes of British shows don't usually inspire confidence, with the likes of The Inbetweeners and Skins failing to really translate across the Atlantic, but hopes are high for Mad Dogs, which has been picked up by Amazon for a full series after airing its pilot back in January. The original was part -thriller, part-black comedy, starring John Simm, Marc Warren, Max Beesley, and Philip Glenister as four friends who go on holiday, only for another of their friends (played by Ben Chaplin) to be murdered, leading to their descent into a dark criminal world. Series creator Cris Cole is also overseeing the American version, with The Shield's Shawn Ryan executive producing, so it's at least in safe hands. Much like the British version it'll have a cast of who's who from across the world of TV, including Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), Billy Zane (Twin Peaks), Steve Zahn (Treme), and Romany Malco (Weeds), while Chaplin is also set to feature once again (albeit in a different role). This time they'll be travelling to Belize, and it promises to be just as dark as the original, if not even darker. It picked up an 18-rating as opposed to the 15 for the British show, which shows the added benefit of streaming services, who are able to deliver bolder, riskier content than their network rivals.
