The Watchers on the Wall, the ninth episode of season 4, gave one of the biggest and best examples of how well the show can do action. It featured giants, mammoths, giants riding mammoths, a huge army of wildlings, and the biggest fire the North has ever seen. The battle raged for much of the episode, hardly letting up on the pace of the action with some seriously impressive work from director Neil Marshall. That reaches its crescendo with the order to drop the scythe. A section of ice shatters, revealing a huge anchor-shaped blade that swings from chains along The Wall, wiping out a vast amount of wildlings in the process. Its an incredible moment, one that leaves you in awe of what theyve achieved on TV, and the visual peak of an episode that looks spectacular throughout.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
