Doctor Who: 20 Things You Didn’t Know About A Christmas Carol

8. Sardicktown Was A Steel Mill

Is it really an episode of Doctor Who if it doesn't feature a location that's been used for the show about a hundred times already?

To add to the industrial feel of Sardicktown, it was decided that filming would take place at an actual steel mill in Wales (where else?).

Mir Steel is located in the Southern Welsh town of Newport, and served as the backdrop for most of the external action in A Christmas Carol. The show had previously travelled there during the filming of Series 4's Journey's End, where it served as the inside of the Dalek Crucible.

It also turned up in Planet of the Dead where it doubled as the Tritovore spaceship, and in The Wedding of River Song as the docks of Calisto B.
