Doctor Who: The Star Beast Review - 9 Ups And 3 Downs

4. UP - Catherine Bloody Tate

Doctor Who The Star Beast David Tennant Fourteenth Doctor
BBC Studios

Yeah, we know everyone’s excited by the return of David Fourteennant, but the MVP and emotional lynchpin of this episode was Catherine Tate, reminding everyone exactly why Donna Noble is among the very best companions the show has ever had.

We loved the small hints of the Donna we know breaking through her amnesia – the donating her lottery winnings because it’s "something he’d do", to calling the Doctor by his name without having heard anyone use it, teasing her eventual return.

We love that Donna has clearly matured and mellowed with age but still has spades of sass that are doled out without prejudice – she’s still making the world a better place by shouting at it.

We can’t wait to see the duo back together for realsies next week and really see those sparks fly, but even without Donna regaining her memory, the infallible chemistry of these two shone through like they’d never been apart. Such warm, fuzzy nostalgia.
