Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder Review - 9 Ups And 2 Downs

2. UP - That Final Sequence

Doctor Who Wild Blue Yonder
BBC Studios

All that tension-building pays off in the final act of the story, as the mystery of the robot, the alien language, and the floating humanoid pterodactyl outside finally unravels itself, resulting in a sudden dash down the green screen hallway of doom.

It’s rare for this show to make you feel like the characters are in genuine danger unless it’s a series finale, but truthfully, when the Doctor accidentally picks the wrong Donna at the end of the episode here, we weren’t sure if we were about to lose her for good (and in fact, at first, we thought he’d made the right choice, only to be fooled by the creature finally perfecting its mimicry).

This was heart-pounding action, providing a satisfying resolution to the story in terms of the answer to the mystery, and also the emotions and themes of the story.

In summary, everything that last week did wrong, this week did right.
