Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder Review - 9 Ups And 2 Downs

8. DOWN - Some Wafty CGI

Doctor Who Wild Blue Yonder
BBC Studios

That Disney money just can’t hide that this is still Doctor Who.

Despite some lovely practical effects work this week, there are some shots throughout the episode that were questionable. Throw as much money as you like on sleek CGI for the backdrop, but if you can’t convincingly green screen your actors onto it, it’s going to end up looking like a car crash.

This was a problem almost entirely localised in the scenes featuring the hallway to end all hallways. Unfortunately though, quite a lot of the episode took place in that hallway.

While we’re at it: not fans of the second use of the TARDIS arriving via shooting into frame and aggressively colliding with the scenery, and we hope this doesn’t become a thing. It’s meant to go ‘vworp vworp’ and do the PowerPoint fade effect, and that’s the end of it. Russell, please fix this. Sincerely, WhoCulture.
