A Series Of Unfortunate Events Season 2: 10 Miserable Fan Theories You Don't Want To See

2. Jacquelyn Is Jacques Snicket

One of the seemingly new creations for the show is the role of Jacquelyn Scieszka (Sara Canning), the assistant of Mr Poe who also happens to be a member of the secret organisation, possess a spyglass, and kick a whole lot of ass.

It could hold that she is simply a show-only character, who serves to bring the wider narrative and mysteries into focus during the first season, allowing the children to focus on their clashes with Olaf. However, one popular theory surrounding the character is that she's a gender-swapped version of Jacques Snicket, brother of Lemony and a recurring character in the books, though largely off-page.

Given Jacquelyn seems to be serving the same purpose as Jacques in the books, and how the series loves to use initials for dropping clues (indeed the initials J.S. recur frequently across the books, and a mysterious character with them is mentioned in The Penultimate Peril, which could feasibly be Jacquelyn), there's actually a pretty good chance this is the case.
