Agent Carter: 10 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References
8. Chief Dooley
It is easy to miss the fact that Marvel films and TV shows are littered with minor characters lifted from the comics, not just the big names. Even those who are hardly footnotes in the long history of Marvel sometimes get a new lease of life.
Take the character of Roger Dooley, for example. In 1985, Dooley made one appearance in Marvel Graphic Novel #18, as a high-ranking SHIELD agent who experiments on She-Hulk. For Agent Carter, the character was retooled as the boss of post-War SHIELD pre-runner, the Scientific Strategic Reserve. As a possible in-joke, both versions of the character come to a grisly end. The comic version was torn apart by killer cockroaches while his TV counterpart is blown up by Howard Stark's faulty Heat Vest.
Elsewhere in the SSR, you might recognise Enver Gjokaj (who plays Daniel Sousa) from The Avengers, as the cop who takes orders from Captain America in the film's climax. In Agent Carter, he’s a potential love interest for Peggy. Who knows, perhaps that character is Sousa and Peggy’s son?
