8. Robert Gonzales
The Episode: Scars
Introduced late in season two, Gonzales was responsible for reforming a separate SHIELD faction outside of Coulson's efforts. Though he was initially distrustful of and willing to clash with Coulson over the latter's documented erratic and suspicious behavior, Gonzales eventually put their differences aside, allowing both SHIELD groups to come together.
After clearing out HYDRA, SHIELD shifted its focus to the Inhuman situation, with Skye helping to set up a meeting between Coulson and Jiaying to talk everything out. Instead, Gonzales took Coulson's place, armed with a mysterious package that raised many a red flag that Gonzales was up to something sinister.
In a surprising turn of events, Gonzales' package turned out to be a peace offering to Jiaying, a necklace she had long ago lost to Whitehall, and he insisted that SHIELD's only goal was peace and the protection of the innocent. For his efforts, Jiaying revealed her true nature, killing him with a Terrigen Crystal and using his own gun to shoot herself and convince her fellow Inhumans that SHIELD wanted war.
