Agents Of SHIELD: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best
3. Season 2
Following the show's late-stage reinvention of itself in the final stretch of its first season, the second season arrived with pretty high expectations that the show could continue holding strong. And rather than just rest on its laurels, the second season kicked things up a notch, using the HYDRA storyline as a launchpad for the introduction of something even bigger: Inhumans.
Along the way, characters like Bobbi, Hunter, Mack, and Lincoln made their debut, villains like Daniel Whitehall, Sunil Bakshi, Jiaying, and the scene-stealing Cal reared their heads, we lost Triplett, and Grant Ward descended further into madness as the selfish Raina was taken down a path of redemption. The season managed to give film characters like Peggy Carter, Sif, and Maria Hill more time to shine, slickly tied in with Avengers: Age of Ultron, and further solidified the show's masterful ability to pull off amazing twists, whether it be Daisy's status as an Inhuman or the rug pull that Agent Gonzales had good intentions all along and Jiaying was the real threat.
As for the team themselves, it was an incredibly solid year for each of them, from FitzSimmons' struggle to overcome what Grant Ward did to them at the end of season one to the revelation of why Melinda May was called "The Cavalry" to Bobbi and Hunter's true love for one another paralleling nicely with the Ward/Agent 33 arc to Daisy finding both answers about her past and a true identity in the present, which all dovetailed into a fantastic season finale that changed the game yet again and demonstrated the series' devotion to pushing itself into new territory.
